yesterday I got to work with an "attendee/intern" couple. Literally Greys Anatomy. she clearly wears the pants in the relationship and their sexual induendo banter is rather nauseating, but I guess I need something to entertain me as we wait for season 12 of Greys to come back haha. my first major surgery was sooooooo awesomeeeeeee. A C-section and a beautiful baby girl have made me start to consider a career path into obstetrics; I swore I'd never.
Today though I started the day watching my first vaginal birth; terrible. Easily the most disgusting thing I've ever watched. the mother was in labor but she definitely wasn't dilated enough, so the nurse made to cuts so that the baby's head could come out. then the cord was wrapped around the baby's neck so the nurse, rather forcefully, pulled on the baby's body. this led to the flash flood of amniotic fluid. oh my gosh I'm feeling slightly nauseous just thinking about it. the baby was okay, but I'm not sure I am.
first scheduled patient of the day was a vaginal historectomy and the patient also had prolapse (which means your uterus and other organs are literally falling out of your body). kay Ew. basically I just spent 4 hours looking at a vagina. it's safe to say that it was terrible and I'm probably never going to let my future spouse stick his face down there because it is nasty. Also pubic hair is freaking disgusting and I think I need to start waxing. oh my gosh if I can't stop picturing vaginas I'm going to have nightmares.
